Summer in Grand Haven means time at the beach! June was the perfect month to get involved with a life jacket donation. We had the opportunity to donate along with the West Michigan Association of Realtors, the Sheriff Dept. in Muskegon, Allegan & Ottawa counties, 60 life jackets to children in West Michigan!
Why life jackets? Last year there were 57 drownings in Lake Michigan, making it the deadliest year on record. Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of death among young children. Needless to say, they save lives! If a child is around water and accidentally falls in or is overwhelmed by the wind, waves or current, a life jacket is essential to keep the child afloat.
The donated life jackets will help West Michigan children safely enjoy and benefit from our country’s beautiful beaches. Wear a life jacket and be safe! By donating these life jackets we hope we can save lives!
